This site collects very little. I don’t sell your data, I don’t run advertising, and I only use your details to reply to you and to keep the site working.
I’m Ray Richards, and this is my personal site at rayrichards.ca, run from Nanaimo, British Columbia. If you have a question about this policy or about your data, use the contact page.
What you send me. When you use the contact form, I receive your name, your email address, your phone number if you choose to give one, and your message, so that I can read it and reply. Nothing else on the site asks for personal information. There are no accounts, no comments, and no newsletter.
What is recorded automatically. Like most websites, the server and the analytics tool record standard technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser, device, approximate location, the page you came from, and the pages you view. I use it in aggregate to see what is being read and to keep the site running.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. The site works without them.
I do not sell or rent your personal information, and I don’t send marketing email.
Only the services that help run the site: the web host, and Google Analytics. Contact-form messages are delivered through my own mail server, not a third-party email service. I may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Contact-form messages are delivered to my email and also kept in a log on the website, along with the IP address and browser they were sent from, so that I can detect and block spam. The website’s copy is deleted automatically after 90 days. The copy in my email is kept as long as I need it to deal with your message and for my records, then deleted. Server logs are deleted automatically on a rolling schedule. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings.
The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and contact-form messages are sent over a secure, authenticated mail connection. No method of sending information over the internet is perfectly secure, but I take reasonable care with yours.
You can ask what personal information I hold about you, ask for a copy, or ask me to correct or delete it. Send me a message through the contact page. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as PIPEDA, the GDPR, or the CCPA, and I honour them where they apply.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
